A working class person or labourer depends on his arms and hands for his livelihood, but when factories shut down and these men without work, it's as if their arms and hands are rendered useless. They face the largest challenge of their life: adapt to the situation of be left behind, just another match-stick man.
With the weight of the world on their shoulders the shadows cast worry at every corner.
However, the children in the school have no worries, the sun shines directly down on top of them, casting no shadows.
