I was inspired to paint this still life by the vibrant colour of the geraniums on a table on our back balcony. I just loved the compelling simplicity of the image.
Looking at the painting the next day, I hated the second pot with a cactus on it on the right-hand side of the table, so I went back, set up again, moved the offending cactus in the pot and painted it out on the canvas. The sunlight was exactly the same as the previous day, and the end result was much better.
