While making a programme on Cezanne in the 'Rolf on Art' TV Series, we were lucky enough to get access to Paul Cezanne studio early mornings before the tourists arrived. I was permitted to use all of his props and to set up my own still life. It was a wonderful experience. I started trying to create a painting in his unique style using acrylics, but at the end of the first morning's filming I decided to switch to oil paint, as I found I coudn't accurately remix exact colours in acrylics to match existing ones on the canvas. I tried very hard to ignore perspective, as the great man had done, and I think I almost succeeded.
