This image was inspired by a photograph I took back in the 1970's when they were rebuilding St. Thomas's hospital opposite the Houses of Parliament. It wasn't until after I'd painted those same buildings as part of my TV prgramme on Claude Monet in 2001 that I was inspired to paint this particular view of Parliament. When I looked closely I realised I hadn't noticed that there was someone sat there in the photograph with a canvas on an easel, actually painting the scene - hence the title.
