I was talking to Niki, a picturer restorer friend of mine, about my difficulty in asking friends to pose nude for my paintings. She said straight away, "I'll post for you, I'm an artist and I'm totally at ease with it." This painting is the result. I tried to get an effect like a Degas pastel, by using oil paint and a fine 'rigger' brush to do vertical strokes throughout. I think it works very well.
It's amazing when you're doing paintings, that some parts work instantly and some parts need to be done over and over again. In this painting, the rough fuest brush strokes on the face and the upper arms were never touched again and the blue/grey under-painting, especially on the top arm, was virtually left 'as is'. In contrast I must have scrubbed out and re-painted those toes half a dozen times!
